In the wine business of her father in southwestern France, an old family secret is hidden. The grandfather was executed by the Résistance in 1944 for collaborating with the Nazis. For decades, it was a topic left unspoken. Now, filmmaker Lucie Dèche attempts to unravel her own family history in “Mamie 44.”
The film is particularly compelling due to its audiovisual style and the intimacy built with her family. As a result, throughout the entire film, one gets to know the conflict even more intimately and often feels right in the midst of it.
