“I lost my colors”

In Florinda Ciucio’s short film “In Memory of,” we are immersed in a Gaza that no longer exists as it once did—a Gaza from the memories of Mohammed Imrani. Using only a pencil, paper, and his voice, Mohammed transports us to a city that has been destroyed. He draws the streets, houses, and mini-markets of Gaza; he draws the bar “Al Baqa,” where he kissed his girlfriend for the first time, and the statue of a phoenix built by his art teacher—none of which exist today. He doesn’t use colors when he draws; he lost them because of the war.

In a conversation with the DOK Spotters, we talk with Mohammed and Florinda about their film, their memories of Gaza, and their pain.
